Local couple Pippa and Andrew Chapman, otherwise known as those plant people, will talk about their permaculture experiments on their organic small-holding in Steeton. The land is on a challenging north-facing slope of the Aire valley, shaded by large trees and hills. Andrew brings his Harlow Carr training to the fore to cope with the difficult conditions there. Pippa and Andrew have created a wildflower meadow, deep perennial border, as well as no-dig vegetable fields and forest understorey. |

| Hartside nursery garden (Alston). This family run nursery was established in 1975 and specialises in propagating, growing and selling some of the rarely offered hardy plants from around the world. The wide range of old and new species and varieties includes Alpines, Primulas, Spring and Autumn Flowering Gentians, Rock Garden Plants, Woodland Garden Plants, Dwarf Conifers, Dwarf Rhododendrons and Hardy Ferns. Plants with altitude for everyone from the beginner to the specialist. |
